Tunnels: Stratford upon Avon Canal

Brandwood tunnel (352 yards)

Brandwood tunnel is on the Northern Stratford canal and is also known as Kings Norton tunnel.  It was opened in 1823 and is brick lined.

This is the only tunnel on the Stratford upon Avon canal. Like many canal tunnels it has no towpath; horses were walked over the hill and barges were pulled through the tunnel using a handrail on the wall of the tunnel, parts of which can still be seen.
