Tunnels: River Saône

Savoyeux tunnel (640 metres)

The tunnel is situated on the Savoyeux lock cut off the River Saône in Savoyeux, Haute-Saône (70).

The tunnel is positioned between a lock at the downstream end and flood gates at the upstream end and is lit throughout.  It is rock hewn and lined with stone and was opened in 1847.

It has one way operation controlled by traffic lights operated by boaters using a twisty pole overhanging the cut.

St-Albin tunnel (680 metres)

The tunnel is situated on the St-Albin lock cut off the River Saône near Scey-sur-Saône in Haute-Saône (70).

The tunnel is positioned between a lock at the downstream end and flood gates at the upstream end and is lit throughout.  It is rock hewn and lined with stone and was opened in 1847.

It has one way operation controlled by traffic lights operated by boaters using a twisty pole overhanging the cut.  When we went through a great deal of work was going on to shore up the cutting at the north east portal.
