Tunnels: River Marne

Chalifert tunnel (168 metres)

The tunnel is situated at the western end of the 13 kilometre cut called Canal de Chalifert et Meaux. The cut links those two towns and cuts off large loops in the River Marne.

The tunnel is positioned between two locks and is lit throughout.  It is rock hewn and lined with stone and was opened in 1846.

It has one way operation controlled by traffic lights operated by the lock keepers.
